Ground Investigation for a drainage scheme for a church conversion in Bedfordshire

Client: Drainage engineer

EMS were instructed to undertake soakaway testing (in accordance with BRE365:2016) and foundation inspection pits to provide information for the design of a drainage scheme for a church conversion in Bedfordshire.

Soakaway testing was undertaken in a number of machine excavated trial pits in order to calculate infiltration rates at the location of a proposed soakaway. It was found that the most permeable strata was sand and gravel at a depth of about 3.00 m.

Foundation inspection pits were completed by a combination of machine and hand excavation. These were undertaken to confirm that trenches for the proposed foul water and surface water sewers would not undermine the foundation of the church and cause structural damage.
